That line in the song of Greenday, makes me think of the number of overseas Filipino workers who will be coming home for the Christmas season in this paradise Philippines. September, the rightful start of the ‘ber’ months, signifies the coming of the Yuletide celebration. As the whole world knows, Christmas in the Philippines is like no other. We start off early (as I’ve said, as early as September), and end the celebrations at a later date – by the end of January in the preceding year. Because of that, our kababayans abroad cannot allow the season of Yule to pass without visiting their dear homeland – the Philippines.

What better time to plan ahead for the homecoming but today, before September ends! Good thing a lot of our budget Philippine hotels are on a roll in giving out special rates here and there. ‘Maagang pamasko’ for the overseas Filipino and his/her family, indeed.

One top choice for the OFW going here on Christmas is the line of Kabayan Hotels. They have branches in Manila such as the Kabayan Hotel Pasay, Kabayan Hotel Caloocan, and Kabayan Hotel Cubao. The rooms offer incredible space for your luggage and Balikabayan boxes. The room ambiance is carefully set to bring you the warmth and comfort of genuine Filipino hospitality.

Kabayan Hotels proudly offers a range of exceptional service like 24-hour airport transfer / “Meet and Greet”, safety deposit boxes, efficient round-the-clock security (with closed circuit cameras in common areas), coffee Shop with room service, secure luggage room, laundry services, guarded parking, 24-hour hotel car rental, and on-call massage services. The hotel’s official website offers the best rates online.

If you’re more on the old-classic Filipino home comfort, the best choice will always be the renowned Legend line of hotels. Go for the Legend Villas Hotel in Mandaluyong. The hotel really invested in genuine Filipino wood products to adorn the receiving areas, dining, windows, and stairs. You can actually hear traditional Filipino music such as the Kundiman and Cariñosa as you enter the premises. It will bring back memories of your summer vacation in the province, or your good ol’ lola (grandmother) who used to listen to Kundiman. Food is exceptionally Filipino in taste. The hunger for our home grown meals will be quenched after years of eating foreign food in another country. The Legend Villas Dining will simply provide for that.

There are definitely more glorious things to look forward to as the Balikbayan travels back to Pinas. With all the energy to exhaust in the celebrations and traditions required by the Christmas season, there are places where you will be truly accommodated even after September ends.

Most of us, Pinoys are lakwatsera(travelers) at heart. “Tara pahangin tayo.. Punta tayo sa Mall.” or “Tara pasyal tayo sa Mall” are common phrases you will hear from Pinoys encouraging a friend or a family member to go to a nearest mall with no shopping intentions. We are easily thrilled by walking at the mall, window shopping and/or chatting with a friend or family.

Now going to the mall becomes extra special because of SM Mall of Asia at Roxas Blvd., Pasay City. Owned by SM Prime Holdings and managed by a Filipino Chinese, Henry Sy. It is tagged as the largest shopping mall in Paradise Philippines and as the 4th largest in Asia. SM Mall of Asia was divided into four buildings interconnected by walkways – the Main Mall, the Entertainment Mall, and the North and South Carpark Buildings.

What I love with this place apart from its size and structure is that you will find almost everything here. From our favorite SM Department store and SM Hypermarket to individual shops and boutiques, restaurants, cinemas and other fun activities and facilities like arcades, Ice rink, benches and free shuttle ride around the mall and the 1st branch of Taste Asia one of the SM Food Court that offers Paluto(cook freshly bought items). Other attractions to watch out for when visiting SM Mall of Asia are the live performances like the SM Mall Marching Band and their breathtaking fireworks display every Saturday and Sundays and Holidays.

So don’t be left behind, visit Paradise Philippines and SM Mall of Asia.

Pinoy just love to have fun with their love ones, family and/or friends. We tend to find time from our busy days to be with them and have some fun filled activities. And one of the favorite Pinoy hangouts especially the MASA is the Star City in CCP Complex, Pasay City.

The park is open Mondays – Fridays (4:00pm -onwards) and Saturdays – Sundays/Holidays (1:00pm – onwards). You can almost find everything at Star City from tiangge, food, rides and games.

Here are some of their rides and attractions you will find at Star City:

Zyklon Loop

A roller coaster that travels at the speed of 60 kph and features a 60 degree drop, banking turns of over 720 degrees. This is the country’s first imported 360-degree loop coaster.

A ride that will definitely turn your stomach upside down…

Grand Carousel

The first double decked carousel in the country. Our own version of European carousel just likes on those Korean novella scenes

Kiddie Bump Car

Enjoying the ride behind the wheels.Let your kids experience the fun and excitement of driving without the hassle of the city’s heavy traffic. (hmmm my baby brother loves this…)

Little Mermaid Boat Ride

Captivate yourself with the fascinating set design artfully made for your touring experience inside this lagoon-like pathway.

Wacky Dragon

Too small for Blizzard but to big for Wacky Worm? Then try Wacky Dragon, one of the roller coasters for the whole family.

Having fun while in the city of Paradise Philippines is easy… just visit Star City and have fun like a child.
